Select a file with the format you want to change (ex: an MP3, a JPG picture, an HTML file) in the Finder. Right click on the file and choose “Get Info.” Change the application in the “Open with:” drop down. Right now, when I double click on a mp3 file, it opens iTunes and adds the file to my library. This ends up creating a lot more work for me because (1) I don't keep many of the tracks, and (2) the ones that I do end up keeping are stored on my network rather than locally on my computer, so they have to get deleted from iTunes and then re-added from my server once I have them in their final place. Sounds like a pretty simple task. *WHAT I'VE ALREADY TRIED - PLEASE DON'T RE-SUGGEST THESE* -Right clicking a file, choosing Open With -> Other -> Selecting Quicktime -> Selecting Always Open With. -Selecting Get Info on a file -> In the Open With section choosing Quicktime and clicking 'Change All.' The dialogue box that comes up says 'Are you sure you want to change all similar documents to open with the application 'iTunes'?' It should says QUICKTIME since that's what I selected!! Sorry if this is similar to the second one. I brought a load of files home that where on my work computer, they were mainly all mp3 as well as a couple of other audio format files I wanted to open in quick time instead of iTunes, so i selected them all, right clicked > get info > open with Quicktime, it then asked if i wanted to do this with similar file formats, I clicked yes and its always opened in quicktime since then, and i have to drag the file into iTunes if I want them in my music collection.
